Widianto Nugroho is Bandung-based artist, designer, programmer, was a researcher, and part-time lecturer.
Widianto interested in computation/programming media, by which he explores methods and tools used in computer science or informatics engineering fields (computation, algorithm, and programming), and parametric processes to address and solve visual design problems as well as medium of expression with its own unique potential. This activity resulted in series of software and generative works[1][2].
Widianto works with Processing[3], an open source programming language and environment to program images, animation, and interactions. He contributes to the Processing community through lectures, workshops[4], and translated the reference of earlier version of Processing language[5] into Indonesian. From 2005-2007, at Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) he assisted undergraduate course in digital printmaking, where he spreads the idea of art making with programming.
Widianto has exhibited his works with new media artists from Japan, France, Pakistan, as well as Indonesia.
From 2007-2009, at Microelectronics Center[6] ITB, he was a member of a research group focused on Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) application packages and simple Linux-based desktop environment that can be run on low-end PC and removable media.
Widianto graduated in 1999 from ITB with Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in ceramics. He lives in Bandung with his wife Aam, his daughter Alia, and his son Ilham. Widianto enjoys motorcycling with his K9 Suzuki Satria FU 150.
